The Art of Persuasion

Crafting an argument is one of the central skills that gets taught in many a Language class.  Persuasion is an art form that is a corner stone in our education system.  Students debate and students write… all in the name of convincing someone of a given “truth”.

But what about re-imagining how information has been presented?  How often do we take something and ask students to see it as something new?  George Couros shared this link recently:

When I saw the clip I was reminded of a similar trailer that I had seen. The amount of thinking that went on to cut these trailers is mind-boggling.  The editors deeply understand the films and how to select potions of the films to convey new ideas.  They are masters of the text.

I’m really hoping that there’s a place for this kind of work in schools.
